Role Overview
Beacon AI is seeking an empathetic and experienced Engineering Manager for Applications to lead our Front End / Web Application and iOS development teams. This role involves overseeing the development and deployment of our web and mobile applications, ensuring they meet high standards of usability, performance, and security. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership skills, and experience in managing both web and mobile application development projects.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Lead and manage the Front End / Web Application and iOS development teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.
Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of application development projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and budget.
Technical Oversight: Provide technical direction and oversight for the development of web and mobile applications, ensuring best practices are followed.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineers across the company to understand and support their development workflows and align application development with business goals and user needs.
Code Quality: Ensure high standards of code quality, security, and performance through code reviews, testing, and continuous integration.
Innovation: Encourage and facilitate the adoption of innovative technologies and methodologies to improve application development processes and outcomes.
Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively, managing team workloads and project priorities to optimize productivity and efficiency.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor the performance and reliability of applications, identifying and addressing any issues or areas for improvement.
Security Compliance: Ensure all applications adhere to security best practices and comply with industry standards and regulations.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for application development processes, standards, and best practices.
User Experience: Collaborate with UX/UI designers to implement a consistent, intuitive, and user-friendly experience across all applications.
Drive Best Practices: Drive software engineering best practices both within our team and across engineering.
Career Development: Mentor and drive career conversations for engineers on the team, contributing impactful projects to the teamβs roadmap.
Recruitment: Conduct technical interviews with well-calibrated standards and play a crucial role in recruiting activities.
Culture Contribution: Be a positive contributor to our team culture, fostering a healthy balance and inclusion.
What Will Make You Successful
Proven Experience: 8+ years of technical experience, with work/leadership of large-scale application systems preferred. 3+ years of experience managing and leading medium-sized teams (5-10 members).
Technical Expertise: Strong technical background in web and mobile application development, with expertise in front-end technologies, frameworks, and tools.
Project Management Skills: Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Leadership Abilities: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide cross-functional teams.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
Security Focus: A strong focus on security best practices and a commitment to maintaining secure and compliant systems.
Agile Methodologies: Good understanding of agile methodologies and experience in implementing agile practices within development teams.
Educational Background: BSc/MSc in Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant field.
Developer Tooling Experience: Experience with developer tooling and application development workflows.
Attention to Detail: Attention to detail, and a desire to improve processes and systems around you.
Empathy and Culture: Passion for leading with empathy and developing a healthy team culture of balance and inclusion.

Mobile Development: Experience with iOS application development and integrating AI capabilities.
Cloud Technologies: Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, for application deployment and management.
Data Visualization: Experience in developing data visualization tools and dashboards.
Aviation Industry: Experience in the aviation industry or related fields.
DevOps/DevSecOps: Background in DevOps or DevSecOps, particularly in automating and optimizing application development workflows.
This is a hybrid role and requires working from our San Carlos, CA office at least three days a week, with the option to work remotely the remaining days.
