A Day in the Life of the DevOps Engineer
As a DevOps Engineer, you will be focused on building, running, and improving customer-facing and internal AWS environments and will also work closely with our development teams to streamline our deployment process.
Responsibilities
- From inception and design, through deployments and daily operations, work closely with our development teams to improve existing LI systems and services as well as help create new product environments
- Maintain customer-facing services by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health
- Use automation to evolve and scale systems sustainably to improve the reliability and velocity of updates
- Design and assist in the selection and implementation of DevOps tools that reliably manage application and environment delivery
- Practice sustainable incident response through open, transparent, and blameless postmortems
- Provide after-hours support for infrastructure-related emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance (most of our maintenance can be performed non-disruptively and production releases are done on weeknights)
- Document processes and work closely with teammates
Skills and Knowledge
- 3-5 years of DevOps/AWS experience
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent related experience
- Experience building and managing production AWS environments using core services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, EKS, etc
- Experience managing Jenkins pipelines
- Experience with Docker, and/or container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS)
- Experience with management of Linux and Windows servers (mostly Linux)
- Experience programming in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, Python, or JavaScript (prefer Python)
- Systematic problem-solving approach and effective communication skills
- Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks
Helpful
- Bitbucket code repository experience
- Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform or similar)
- Salt configuration management experience
- CI/CD experience
